Uninstall the plugin

What deactivating and deleting the plugin removes from WordPress, what stays behind, and why you should disconnect the site before you delete it.

You can remove the plugin at any time. By the end of this page you will know what deactivating and deleting it does, and what to do first.

Plan: this works the same on every plan. Removing the plugin does not change or cancel your brokenlinkchecker.io plan.

Disconnect first

Deleting the plugin does not disconnect the site from your account. The site stays on brokenlinkchecker.io and can keep holding a Pro slot.

So disconnect the site before you delete the plugin:

  1. Open Settings & billing in the Broken Links menu.
  2. Open the menu behind the three dots in the connection bar.
  3. Click Disconnect site.

If you already deleted the plugin, disconnect the site from brokenlinkchecker.io instead. Open the project, click WordPress in the sidebar and click Disconnect next to the site.

Deactivate

Deactivating the plugin only stops its scheduled scans. Your settings, results and connection stay. Activate it again and everything is back where you left it.

Delete

When you delete the plugin from the Plugins page, WordPress runs its cleanup. There is no option to keep your data.

The cleanup removes these items:

  • Your plugin settings.
  • The scan results and the last scan summary.
  • The connection to your account, on the WordPress side.
  • The scan progress and the count of completed scans.
  • The rows-per-page choice and banner choices of every user.
  • The scheduled scan events.

What stays behind

A few items stay in your database after you delete the plugin:

  • The list of past scans shown on Scan reports.
  • The links you marked as Not broken.
  • Short-lived copies of tool data, which expire on their own.
  • A few small records, such as the state of the last scan and the last AI fix batch.
  • The undo data for links the Internal Link Optimizer added.
  • A small image called loader.gif in your Media Library, used by the scan progress banner. You can delete it by hand.

These leftovers do not affect your site. If you install the plugin again later, your Not broken list and past scans come back.

Fixes you applied stay in your posts. That covers edited URLs, removed links, AI fixes, SEO title and description changes, and internal links. Deleting the plugin does not undo any of them.
