About Broken Link Checker
Broken Link Checker is a suite of seven SEO tools that finds broken links, tracks rankings, monitors AI visibility and watches uptime. It is built and operated by Norse Digital Group LLC, with development by Mementor AS, a Norwegian digital agency founded in 2015. We built the first scanner for our own client sites. Today anyone can use it, free, without creating an account.
What Broken Link Checker does
It started with one job: enter a URL, and the crawler visits your pages, follows every link, and tests each one.
Within minutes you get a report that shows broken internal and external links with the exact page they sit on, faulty redirects, soft 404s, and the anchor text for every broken link.
That scanner grew into seven tools: link checking, keyword rank tracking, Bing rank tracking, AI visibility monitoring, internal link optimization, SEO and AEO audits, and uptime monitoring.
The free scan covers up to 250 pages, with a shareable link and CSV export. No signup, no credit card, no trial countdown. Current limits are always listed on the pricing page.
Why broken links hurt your website
A broken link fails twice. It fails the visitor, who hits a dead end and often leaves. And it fails your SEO, because search engines waste visits on error pages and stop passing link value through dead links.
The numbers add up fast. External sites shut down, pages move, and URLs change without notice. You never get a warning. The only way to know is to check.
Fixing broken links is one of the cheapest SEO wins available. It costs nothing but the time to find them. That finding part is what we automate.
Who is behind Broken Link Checker?
Broken Link Checker is owned by Norse Digital Group LLC, a US software company registered in Wyoming.
Development and operations are handled by Mementor AS, a digital marketing agency in Norway founded in 2015 by Thomas Alling, with offices in Oslo and Bømlo. The team works with SEO, AEO, Google Ads and web development for client sites every day.
Thomas leads development of the suite. He has built for the web since 2000 and is certified in Google Ads and Google Analytics. Read more on his author page.
The web scanner was built in-house, because the tools we tried were limited, slow, or locked behind expensive plans. The WordPress plugin, Check for Broken Links, was acquired and rebuilt on the same engine.
We use it on every site we manage
This is not a product we built for others and forgot. Every website we manage, our own products and our client sites, runs through these tools as part of regular maintenance.
When the crawler misreports something, we are the first users to notice. That feedback loop keeps the results accurate.
The same engine powers the WordPress plugin and the upcoming Shopify app, so scheduled checks run right where you work.
How we work
Free means free
The free tier has no countdown and no card wall. We earn money on monitoring plans, not by gating the basic scan.
Data first
Reports show what the crawler saw, with status codes and sources. No inflated scores, no scare tactics.
Your site stays yours
We check links and rankings. We do not scrape content, and site owners can opt out of crawling.
What makes this suite different
Accurate soft 404 detection
Many checkers only read HTTP status codes. A page can return 200 and still say "Page not found". Our crawler reads the content and flags these hidden errors.
Full context for every error
Each broken link comes with the source page and the anchor text. You fix links faster when you know exactly where they live and what they say.
One account, seven tools
Link checks, rankings, AI visibility, site structure, audits and uptime live in one place, on the web, in WordPress and soon on Shopify.
Respectful crawling
The crawler identifies itself, follows standard conventions, and site owners can opt out. Details are on the crawler page.
Frequently asked questions
Is Broken Link Checker really free?
Yes. You can scan up to 250 pages per site without an account or payment details. Paid plans add scheduled monitoring, alerts, and higher limits. Current free limits are listed on the pricing page.
How often should I check my site for broken links?
Once a month works for most sites. Large sites, news sites, and shops with changing product pages should check weekly. Paid monitoring runs this automatically and alerts you when new broken links appear.
Do broken links affect SEO?
Yes. Broken internal links waste search engines' time and break the flow of link value through your site. Pages full of dead links signal neglect. Google's own documentation recommends fixing or removing broken links.
Can I check a client's website?
Yes, as long as you have permission from the site owner. Agencies use the shareable report link and white-label reports to document link health for clients.
