Plan: every plan includes the Uptime Monitor, Free too. Your plan sets how many monitors you get and how often they check.
What it watches
You add monitors, and each monitor watches one thing. There are four types:
- HTTP loads a page on a schedule and checks that it answers. HTTP monitors covers the form.
- SSL expiry reads the expiry date of a site's certificate once a day.
- Domain expiry reads the expiry date of a domain registration once a day.
- Heartbeat waits for your own server or script to call a ping URL. Heartbeat monitors shows how.
When a monitor fails, an incident opens and you get an alert. When it recovers, the incident closes and you get one more mail.
Open the Uptime Monitor
- Open a project from your Projects hub.
- Click Uptime monitor in the sidebar.
- Click Add monitor to create your first monitor.
The header shows the overall state, such as "All systems operational", and the time of the last check. It also shows how many monitors of your plan are in use.
What belongs to a project and what belongs to your account
Each monitor belongs to the project you created it on. It shows up only on that project's Uptime Monitor page.
Four things are shared across your whole account. Alert channels, maintenance windows, status pages and client groups look the same on every project's Uptime Monitor page.
Your monitor limit counts every monitor of every type across all your projects. Monitors do not use any of your Pro sites.

The check interval applies to HTTP monitors. Expiry monitors check once a day on every plan. Every plan offers all four heartbeat ping intervals.
How fast you hear about downtime
An HTTP monitor only sees a problem at its next check. On Free, checks run every 5 minutes, so spotting an outage alone can take up to 5 minutes.
The Alert after setting multiplies that wait. With Alert after set to 3, the alert waits for three failed checks in a row. How downtime is confirmed explains each step.
When you reach the monitor limit
The Add monitor button switches off once every monitor on your account is in use. Delete a monitor you no longer need to free a place. A bigger plan raises the limit and allows faster check intervals.
Check a site without an account
The free uptime checker tests any site once, with no login. A failed test is checked again from a second location before it shows as down.
