Maintenance windows

Plan downtime without false alerts. Set a start and end time, pick the monitors, and checks and alerts pause for that stretch.

A maintenance window pauses checks and alerts while you work on a site. By the end of this page you will have planned one and know exactly what it silences.

Add a maintenance window

  1. Open the project and click Uptime monitor in the sidebar.
  2. Click the Maintenance tab.
  3. Set Starts and Ends. Enter both in UTC.
  4. Optional: add a Note (optional), such as "Deploy".
  5. Tick the Monitors the window covers.
  6. Click Add window.

The message "Maintenance window created." confirms it. The end time must come after the start time and lie in the future.

The tick list shows only this project's monitors. To cover monitors from another project, add the window from that project's page.

What a window silences

While a window runs, it covers only the monitors you ticked on it:

  • HTTP monitors run no checks.
  • Heartbeats are not judged, so a missed ping does not count.
  • Expiry checks are skipped.
  • No alert goes out, by email, channel or escalation.

A window left without monitors silences nothing.

Before and after a window

An incident that was already open stays open during the window. Its alerts resume once the window ends.

Checks start again within seconds after the end time. A heartbeat gets a full new ping window, so your job has time to ping again.

Read the list

Each window shows its start and end time, the note and the monitors it covers. A window that is running right now shows an Active badge. Running and upcoming windows sort first.

Change or delete a window

Windows cannot be edited, and they do not repeat. Each one covers a single stretch of time. To change one, delete it and add a new one.

To delete a window, click Delete and confirm. Deleting a running window starts checks on its monitors again right away.

HTTP monitors Add an HTTP monitor, pick its check interval, watch for a keyword, set Alert after, and pause, edit or delete a monitor later. An uptime alert looks wrong The site loads but the monitor says down, an alert came late, or one arrived during planned work. Find the cause and fix the monitor.
