The Rank Tracker shows where your site ranks on Google and Bing for the keywords you pick. By the end of this page you will have added your first keywords. You will also know how much of your plan they use.
Plan: the Rank Tracker works on every plan, Free too. Your plan sets the size of your positions pool.
What the tracker records
For each keyword, the tracker looks for your domain in the organic search results. It records the position of the first result from your domain and the page that ranks. A keyword that is not in the top 100 shows as >100.
When you add a keyword, the tracker also fetches its search volume, cost per click, competition and search intent. Read the rankings table explains each column.
Add keywords
- Open a project from your Projects hub.
- Click Rank tracker in the sidebar.
- Click Add keywords.
- Type your keywords in the Keywords box, one per line. A comma also separates two keywords.
- Pick a Market and a Device. The device is Desktop, Mobile or Both.
- Click Add keywords at the bottom of the form.
A message confirms how many keywords the tracker added. First positions arrive in a few minutes. Search volume and the other keyword data follow right after.
The tracker skips duplicates. A keyword you already track on the same device is not added twice. Capital letters make no difference.
Choose Google, Bing or both
A project tracks Google until you change it. The engine setting belongs to the project and applies to all its keywords.
- Click Tracker settings at the top of the Rank Tracker.
- Under Search engine, pick Google, Bing or Both.
- Click Save settings.
The new setting applies from the next ranking check. Tracking both engines costs no extra money. It does count twice against your positions pool.
When you stop tracking an engine, its old positions stay on their own tab. A note on that tab says they are history from an earlier setting.
How the positions pool works
Your plan gives you a pool of positions. Every project on your account draws from the same pool.
A keyword uses one position for each device and each search engine it tracks. One keyword on both devices and both engines uses four positions. On Free, ten positions cover five keywords when you track Google and Bing.
A badge in the Rank Tracker header shows the positions in use and your limit. Markets and devices has the full table of costs.
When a batch does not fit
The tracker adds keywords until the pool is full and skips the rest. The message then says how many keywords did not fit your plan's position limit.
A settings change that needs more positions than your pool holds is refused. The message names the positions needed and the positions on your plan.
To make room, delete keywords you no longer need. Their positions free up at once. A bigger plan or a keyword tier raises the pool. Rank Tracker plan limits lists both.
