Guest mode and signing in

You can use the extension before you have an account, and sign in when you need more. By the end of this page you will know both modes and how to switch between them.

Plan: without an account you get 1 page scan a day. Signed in, the extension shares the monthly scans and page limits of your account.

Guest mode#

The first time you open the popup, there is no sign-in wall. The extension starts in guest mode and shows the scan button right away. The popup footer reads "Free scan · no account" until you use your scan.

As a guest, you can do all of the following:

• Scan the page in your tab. The Entire site choice still scans only that one page while you are a guest.
• Work with the results. Highlight, open and copy links, export a CSV and open the side panel.
• Open the full report. Every guest scan also gets its own report page on brokenlinkchecker.io.

Check images stays off for guests, even when you switch it on under Advanced. Your free scan comes back each day at midnight UTC. Reinstalling the extension does not give you a second free scan on the same day.

When your free scan is used#

After your free scan, the popup reads "That was your free scan." The results you already have stay on screen, and only the scan button changes.

Click Create free account to sign up, or click Sign in if you already have an account. The footer reads "Free scan used · resets tomorrow" until the next day.

What signing in unlocks#

• More scans. Your scans come from the monthly pool of your account, shared with scans on brokenlinkchecker.io.
• Whole-site scans. Entire site follows your internal links up to the page limit of your plan.
• Image checks. Check images works once you sign in, and it checks the image sources on the page.
• Your account in the footer. The popup shows your email, your plan and the scans used this month.
• Links to your projects. The More SEO tools row opens your own project when one exists for the domain.

Scans from the extension and from the website come out of the same pool. The count starts again on the 1st of each month. Plan limits lists every limit on every plan, beyond scans and pages.

Sign in#

As a guest, you sign in from the Options page. Once your free scan is used, the popup shows a Sign in button as well.

1. Click the gear icon in the popup to open Options.
2. In the Account card, click Sign in.
3. A brokenlinkchecker.io tab opens. Log in with the code we email you, or with Google, if you are not logged in yet.
4. On the page "Connect the Chrome extension", check your email address and click Connect.
5. The tab reads "Connected". Close it and open the popup again.

The connect page lists what the extension may do: start scans, read scan results and appear under Connected apps. After you connect, the popup footer shows your email, your plan and the scans used this month.

If the popup still shows Sign in, open it again and retry. The message "Sign-in did not match this browser" also means you should start again from the popup.

Sign out#

1. Click the three-dot menu at the top of the popup.
2. Click Sign out.
3. With results on screen, the item changes to Sign out and drop results? Click it again to confirm.

You can also click Sign out in the Account card on the Options page. Signing out clears your sign-in, your account details and the current scan from Chrome. Your scan defaults, theme and exclude patterns stay as they were. The next time you open the popup, the extension is back in guest mode.

Revoke the extension from your account#

Each browser that signs in appears under Connected apps on your Account page, for example "Chrome on Windows".

1. Open your account page on brokenlinkchecker.io.
2. In Connected apps, click Revoke next to the browser.
3. Confirm the question "Disconnect this extension?".

That browser is signed out at once, and you can sign in again from its popup. Removing the extension from Chrome does not revoke it on its own. So revoke any browser you no longer use from the Account page.
